Software Architecture, Cloud, Technical Software ArchitectureTechnical Software Architecture

Patterns, Distributed Systems, and Cloud

Architecture and architects are increasingly under fire for being disconnected from the technology they are making decisions about. This leads to a growing nervousness as architects carry around a list of technologies they wish they had time to study, but simply don't. Architects who aren't technically proficient struggle to keep up with developers who, along with executives, begin to wonder why we even have architects at all.

In this session Barry O'Reilly, founder of Black Tulip Technology and creator of ”Residuality theory", will talk about the area that is the basis of the course Cloud Architecture Fundamentals. He will talk about the kind of technical skills that are necessary for architecture, how to keep those sharp without investing 1000's of hours and become able to contribute to technical discussions without detailed knowledge of products.

The session will look at cloud - with its hundreds of constantly evolving components provides an example of the kinds of challenges architects are facing.

The seminar and webinar will be held in English.

Barry O'Reilly

Barry O’Reilly is an Architect and researcher who has held Chief Architect positions at Microsoft, among others. He has also been a startup CTO, the Worldwide Lead for the Solutions Architecture Community at Microsoft, and founder of the Swedish Azure User Group. He is also a PhD candidate in software design and complexity science and the inventor of Residuality Theory.

Barry has just published the book “Residues: Time, Change, and Uncertainty in Software Architecture.“ This book which is now #1 on LeanPub, provides an easy introduction to the subject of Residuality Theory. A revolutionary new way to think about software architecture that fuses Software Engineering, Complexity Science, and Philosophy to provide an entirely new way to think about the problem of architecting software solutions.
