Is this the right course for you?

This is a challenging and fun course designed for those architects who actively want to build quality systems. It can serve as an introduction for developers to technical architecture, a refresher for enterprise architects, or as an introduction to modern computing.

The lessons learned here are equally as relevant for on-premise systems as cloud, and the course also serves as an introduction to the principles of cloud solution architecture.

About the course

The course Technical Software Architecture will teach you how to work in complex business environments where you and other stakeholders might not fully understand how the business works or how the future will look.

This course covers what an architect needs to know in terms of technology in order to be able to design, build, and test software architectures. Contrary to architectural approaches over the last few decades this program puts a lot of emphasis on technical ability and this course is intended for senior developers and architects who have perhaps drifted away from technology over the years.

Technical Software Architecture identifies the technical knowledge that is necessary to make good design decisions as a software architect.

The course is conducted together with our partner Black Tulip Technology.

The course will provide you:

  • An understanding of distributed systems and their components
  • How to manage modern cloud design
  • The ability to create technical strategies to succeed with quality in large systems

Program day 1-3

The course started with a review of the history of software engineering – with the aim of understanding the architectural decisions that have been made from the first basic computers to modern cloud platforms.

We will look at the evolution from procedural code to objects, services, and cloud architectures. We will then reverse engineer modern cloud patterns and products to understand what kind of decision making has been carried out and the underlying knowledge needed to build modern applications either in the cloud or on premise. This involves a deep dive into distributed systems, non-functional requirements, and tools for making sure our architectures can be adequately described and tested.

  • Software Engineering for Architects
  • From Turing to Cloud – the history of software
  • What is the architect’s role?
  • Architecture and Programming
  • Object and Service orientation
  • Abstraction and structural programming
  • How cloud was born
  • Introduction to Distributed Systems
  • Modern distributed systems
  • Cloud components and patterns
  • Reference architectures
  • Defining an architecture – call chains
  • Scalability
  • Security
  • Performance
  • Availability
  • Maintainability
  • Putting it all together

Så här säger deltagarna

  • “The ideas and discussions relating to how one should go about when design a good architecture feel very intuitive. This training however puts words on every step and process one needs to take in order to be able to do that successfully.”

    Daniel Budai, Handelsbanken, 2026
  • “Every architect who needs to develop solution architectures for distributed systems needs to have the knowledge that the course teaches. It was at the right level, dealing with tricky technical issues without going into detail about specific products.”

    Ingvar Isendor, Handelsbanken, 2024
  • “You'll learn more about the technical nature of architecture and how to apply it in these 3 days than you'll do 3 years anywhere else.”
