In this webinar, Barry O’Reilly reflects on the turbulence of the last few years as the "GenAI hype cycle" starts to settle. What have we really learned, and what does it mean for architecture going forward?

In Barry O’Reillys own words:
"Developers are worried - many hear that they will be replaced soon. That coding as we knew it is gone. Wild claims have been made about the efficiency of these new tools, without evidence. A new age of software is claimed to be inevitable.
And yet nothing changes, beyond the social media hype. Stocks are not moving. No huge AI cost saving is apparent in the bottom lines of major, non-tech companies . Big Tech players are openly worried about lack of adoption and ROI. No one truly knows where the truth lies.
And what of architecture? Just like during the agile movement, architecture is lost at sea, unsure of what any of this means. Perhaps Architecture will be replaced by GenAI, they wonder? Architects scramble to do the only thing they know how - produce governance frameworks for a world that might not ever be realised. Always late to the party, and always dressed for the wrong party."
Barry argues that GenAI instead offers something more valuable than quick answers or productivity promises:
"GenAI however offers a chance for reflection, a chance to rethink what architecture is and could be as software engineering finds itself in flux. A chance to be relevant again. A closer look at the GenAI industry reveals history repeating itself, a history architects should already know, because we’ve been before."
- A perspective on GenAI beyond hype, fear and bold claims
- Historical parallels that help architects make sense of what’s happening now
- How the role of architecture may evolve as software engineering changes
- Barrys view of where GenAI fits and where it doesn’t

The course Introduction to Modern Solution Architecture
Barry O’Reilly is one of our most appreciated lecturers who holds a three-part course series on modern IT architecture. For participants who want to go further, there is also a fourth, certification course available for those with a qualifying project.
The first in the series provides a practical and up-to-date perspective on architecture, based on real-world challenges and today’s technological landscape.
It gives you:
- An introduction to, and understanding of, modern solution architecture
- Tools, techniques and ways of working suited for both cloud-based and on-prem architectures
- A deeper understanding of how architecture can support delivery in the face of increasing uncertainty and complexity
