Architecture for Distributed Systems and CloudTechnical Software Architecture

Patterns, Distributed Systems, and Cloud

The course Technical Software Architecture will teach you how to work in complex business environments where you and other stakeholders might not fully understand how the business works or how the future will look.

This course covers what an architect needs to know in terms of technology in order to be able to design, build, and test software architectures. Contrary to architectural approaches over the last few decades this program puts a lot of emphasis on technical ability and this course is intended for senior developers and architects who have perhaps drifted away from technology over the years.

Technical Software Architecture identifies the technical knowledge that is necessary to make good design decisions as a software architect.

  • The course will provide you:
  • An understanding of different PaaS components in Azure and AWS
  • The ability to choose the right PaaS component
  • The ability to compose cloud architectures using these components

The course started with a review of the history of software engineering - with the aim of understanding the architectural decisions that have been made from the first basic computers to modern cloud platforms.

We will look at the evolution from procedural code to objects, services, and cloud architectures. We will then reverse engineer modern cloud patterns and products to understand what kind of decision making has been carried out and the underlying knowledge needed to build modern applications either in the cloud or on premise. This involves a deep dive into distributed systems, non-functional requirements, and tools for making sure our architectures can be adequately described and tested.
